HeatShield® Application

It’s important for your chimney’s flue to have a proper and functioning chimney liner. The liner works to:

  • Help your chimney effectively and efficiently vent the byproducts of combustion
  • Protect your family from the intrusion of toxic gases
  • Protect nearby combustibles from the high heat of combustion

If the clay tile liner in your chimney is damaged (be it cracks in the tiles, deteriorated mortar between the tiles, or spalling in the tiles themselves), Chim Cheree, The Chimney Specialists’ technicians can inspect the damage and give you a full explanation of the chimney’s state, with recommendations for repairs.

If we’ve caught the damage early enough so that relining isn’t the only safe option, we may be able to use HeatShield®, a chimney liner repair system that can thoroughly and affordably restore your clay liner to safe working order. HeatShield®’s Sleeve Relining System can also be used with liners that show more significant damage.

What Is HeatShield®?

HeatShield® is a cerfractory sealant material, which means it can stand up to the intense heat produced in your fireplace, and can effectively repair a damaged clay tile flue liner. Depending on the type of damage to your liner, we’ll recommend one of three HeatShield® applications.

Joint Repair
The HeatShield® Joint Repair system will be the best choice if your damage is confined to the mortar joints. Chim Cheree technicians will use a specially designed applicator tool that allows us to fill voids with HeatShield® material, and then properly smooth the repairs.

Resurfacing
If repairs are needed throughout your flue liner, we’ll recommend Resurfacing. With this method, we’ll first apply what’s called a “tie coat” to give us a clean, primed surface to work on, then we’ll apply the cerfractory sealant along the entirety of the flue, to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.

Sleeve Relining
HeatShield®’s Sleeve Relining System can be used with chimney liners that show more significant damage. Installation includes the application of a cerfractory sealant coating, the use of a custom-fitted ceramic insulation sleeve over it, then another sealant coating.

HeatShield® is safe to use with all fuels, and can stand up to temperatures as high as 2900°F, as well as moisture and corrosive gases. When installed by a certified chimney technician, it also carries a 20-year limited warranty.

If you’re interested in learning more about HeatShield® or having your chimney liner repaired or replaced, contact Chim Cheree, The Chimney Specialists at 864-895-4204, or use our online scheduling form!

You may need a different chimney relining solution such as the cast-in-place option known as Supaflu. We will happily discuss all the possibilities with you, so give us a call.
