What does it mean to be an NFI-Certified Gas Specialist?

Founded in 2001 as the professional certification division of the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Education Foundation (HPBEF), the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) establishes important credentials for professionals who plan and install residential hearth appliances and venting systems. To become an NFI-Certified Gas Specialist, one must pass an exam that extensively covers topics relating to the safe and proper planning and installation of gas hearth appliances. This is especially important as working with gas without the necessary skills and training can be very dangerous. The NFI also provides certification for other specializations, including wood-burning, pellet, and hearth design.
